The mysteries of Life

There are small, seemingly inconsequential events that just seem to set your thoughts off. Those events by themselves may seem trivial, but they just topple off dominoes of all sorts of unimaginable thoughts in your mind. One moment before you are all cheerful and happy, and then everything just seems to change. You can’t help but look at and remember all things sad, all things that hurt you, anger you.

The funny thing is that the person who causes the lynchpin to move just seems oblivious to the turbulence thereby caused. He just wonders why you would overreact over such a small thing. But it isn’t nothing to you, is it? It just causes all your insecurities to come rushing back, taking over you, engulfing you, drowning you.

The world just turns into this angry gloomy place, where nothing really makes sense. Why do we exist? What are we really doing here? Is our whole purpose in life to just earn and get on with life? A good college, a well-paying job; is this what life is about?

Or is it all about beautiful things? Earn well to have a beautiful car, a beautiful house? Does that lead to a beautiful life? Not to ignore our obsession with beautiful people. In the end it all boils down to that, doesn’t it? You could be the kindest person on Earth, but if you aren’t pretty, if you don’t meet others; standards of beauty, well you aren’t important. You could be mean. But if you are pretty or if you are rich, you aren’t that bad after all. Your vices can be excused in this case.

But you know what? Life is all about love. No, I am not talking about the sappy, movie romance kind. Though, if you have that, and it’s real, cherish it. In the end, all we want is to be loved. Love, appreciation, acknowledgement of our presence. We want people to like us (though most people make it really hard to be liked). We can’t seem to let go of people who appreciate us, we hold on to them, sometimes despite being aware of our selfishness. But, we need to learn to be little selfless, and show them love too. And we need to be more appreciative of all the people whom we are lucky to have around us. Those, beautiful, kind souls. Say thanks to them, show them your love and appreciation. It’s perhaps long due.

Huh. Weird, what one event can get you to think.
